5 Key Things You Must Know About the Best Fake Tan
It's official! Faking it is the best and safest way to get a tan. So, how de we go about ensuring we don't look like a tangerine and smell like biscuits?
Here is a list of the keys things to look out for in your fake tanning products:
1. Does it contain any moisturisers?
Why would you want to know this? Well, the key ingredient in any fake tanning product is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) which in most cases is derived from sugar beet. However this is naturally drying on your skin, therefore it makes sense to ensure you are using the highest quality product which should contain some particularly high moisturising properties. Take Unreal Body Bronze as a starter, we have Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and more besides, ensuring your tan doesn't dehydrate your skin but enhances the hydration.
2. Does the colour suit my skin tone?
Check whether there are any indications as to the colour strength of the product. Avoid a "one size fits all" product. Unreal provides Personal Tanning Mist which comes in Light, Medium, and Dark. We also have a gradual Tanner called Unreal Body Bronze which you can use to top up an existing tan or apply every other day for a healthy "glow".
3. Avoid Streaks at all costs
Always use a tanning mitt when applying your sunless tanner. If you are using a liquid or lotion product then these are ideal and will help ensure you have applied with care. If you are using a cream based product such as Unreal Body Bronze then you might find a vinyl glove makes the process easier.
4. Always, always exfoliate before your tanning session.
Don't skip this part and always make sure you've waxed or shaved at least the day before. Why is it so important? Well you really do want a "clean canvas" to work with when you start off. So by exfoliating you are eliminating all the dead skin cells at that point in time, thereby leaving a nice fresh canvas and your tan should then fade off evenly. Use Unreal Body Buff to do this job for you as you can use this in the shower just before you start. Some exfoliators that you buy in the Supermarkets can leave a residue on your skin and this will contribute to a streaky tan.
5. Does it contain Alcohol?
Alcohol is very drying on the skin, and as we've mentioned in point one above, you need to keep your skin hydrated. Some products contain it to help the drying process and it is a cheap ingredient to use in a formulation. However, here at Unreal we have perfected our formulation to eliminate the use of alcohol in all our products giving you the best fake tan ever. This doesn't mean our products aren't quick drying though, as we have used the highest quality ingredients possible ensuring that you don't suffer any "tacky" feeling after you've finished your application.
